Embraer and Dassault Systèmes to support quieter eVTOL aircraft development for Eve Air Mobility
Velizy-Villacoublay, France, March 14, 2024: Embraer and Dassault Systèmes have forged a unique partnership, harnessing the power of Dassault Systèmes' cutting-edge simulation technology to develop quieter electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for Eve Air Mobility. This collaboration leverages the SIMULIA PowerFLOW application, which offers comprehensive fluid dynamics simulations to anticipate real-world operational conditions. Engineers can accurately evaluate the aircraft's flight performance and sound emissions.
The SIMULIA PowerFLOW application, developed by Dassault Systèmes, is a cutting-edge computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software. It utilizes Lattice Boltzmann-based physics to accurately predict real-world conditions, allowing engineers to assess product performance early in the design process. PowerFLOW excels in aerodynamic, aeroacoustic, and thermal management simulations without the need for manual volume and boundary layer meshing. Its high scalability and sophisticated physical modeling capabilities make it an invaluable tool for transportation, mobility, and aerospace defense industries .
The partnership emphasizes noise reduction in the design of eVTOL aircraft, which is crucial for operations in urban environments. It aims to make these aircraft more sustainable alternatives to traditional combustion-powered aircraft. This aligns with the broader goal of advancing Urban Air Mobility (UAM) solutions that are reliable, affordable, sustainable, and focused on human-centric design.
The collaboration underscores using numerical models validated against experimental results to expedite product development. By reducing noise, this ensures the safety, accessibility, and comfort of all stakeholders, including passengers, pilots, and the community at large. This approach accelerates the development process and enhances the final product's quality, benefiting all parties involved.
Embraer and Eve have made significant strides in their partnership, announcing the establishment of Eve's first eVTOL production facility in Taubaté, São Paulo, Brazil, in July 2023. The assembly of the first full-scale eVTOL prototype is already underway, with a testing campaign scheduled for 2024. This progress demonstrates both companies' commitment to the partnership and sets the stage for planned deliveries and service initiation in 2026.
This initiative demonstrates Embraer's commitment to leading in the emerging UAM sector and positions the company favorably in the market. The emphasis on sustainability and noise reduction reflects the growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation solutions and could significantly influence regulatory approval and public acceptance of eVTOLs in urban airspaces.
